Yesterday, our world turned upside down when our beloved dog, Shady, slipped out the door and was tragically hit by a car. In a matter of seconds, our lives changed, and we're now facing a heartbreaking decision we never imagined we'd have to make.

Shady is currently at Creature Comforts in Saylorsburg, where the veterinarians are doing everything they can to help him. They are recommending X-rays, liquid IV fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics, but they are also concerned about possible damage to his spleen or liver, which could mean emergency surgery. The estimated cost of his care is around $8,000—an amount that is simply beyond our reach right now.

Shady is only 3½ years old and still has so much life ahead of him. He is our sweet, smart boy who loves everyone—children, strangers, and other animals. He brings happiness wherever he goes and has touched so many lives. He isn't just a pet to us; he's family. He is also a registered support dog for me and my children, and we truly cannot imagine life without him.

One of my favorite memories with Shady is taking him for ice cream and seeing the biggest smile spread across his face afterward. That pure happiness, that excitement, and that unconditional love are what we're fighting to see again.

Anyone who has ever loved an animal understands that they become part of your heart. Shady has been our companion, our comfort, and our support through so much. The thought of losing him because we can't afford the medical care he desperately needs is absolutely devastating.

We are humbly asking for help. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Shady's medical expenses and give him the chance he deserves to heal and come home to the family that loves him so much. If you're unable to donate, sharing his story and keeping him in your thoughts and prayers would mean the world to us.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read Shady's story and for any kindness, support, prayers, or donations you are able to give.

Please help us save our sweet boy and give him the chance to keep making memories with us. ❤️🐾

🐾 Update on Shady + New Fundraising Goal 🐾

Hi everyone, I wanted to share the most recent update on Shady and also update our fundraiser based on his progress and current care needs.

Shady has been slowly improving over the past couple of days. As he was being weaned down off his Morphine, Lidocaine, and Ketamine pain drips, he became more alert and started moving around more on his own. He even managed to dislodge his IV catheter overnight, which was unexpected but also a sign that he’s getting stronger and more active again.

The best news is that he was able to get up and go outside for morning walks today. Seeing him on his feet and moving again has been a huge relief after everything he’s been through.

Because of his progress, we’ve adjusted our fundraising goal to better reflect the remaining expected care costs rather than the initial emergency estimate. The new goal is $3,500, which we believe more accurately covers what he still needs moving forward.

Every donation, share, and message of support has meant so much during this process. It truly has helped carry us through some of the hardest moments.

We’re still not out of the woods yet, but Shady is fighting, and we’re doing everything we can to keep him stable and comfortable while he continues to recover.

Thank you again for helping give him this chance.

6/28/26 🐾 Shady Update 🐾

First, I want to thank everyone who has donated, shared, prayed, and reached out to check on Shady. Your kindness has meant more than I can put into words.

Unfortunately, after bringing Shady home, he wasn't able to keep water down and completely lost interest in food. Although he was keeping small amounts of food down, something still wasn't right, so I made the decision to take him back to the emergency hospital.

After additional testing, including a contrast study, the doctors discovered that Shady has a small tear in his bladder, causing a urine leak. While this wasn't the news we were hoping for, we're incredibly thankful they were able to find the source of the problem.

The good news is that Shady is stable, his blood work has improved, and the veterinary team says he is not in any distress. Because the tear is small, they plan to perform surgery tomorrow afternoon to repair it. Right now, he's resting comfortably while receiving IV fluids and medications.

The additional hospitalization and testing have already added $622.79 to his bill, and surgery will bring additional expenses. We are beyond grateful that Dr. Karin has generously offered to donate her surgery time, and CCVS is working to apply for a grant on Shady's behalf to help reduce the financial burden. Their compassion has given us so much hope during this difficult time.

We're still asking for your help as we continue this unexpected journey. Every donation, share, and prayer truly makes a difference and brings Shady one step closer to coming home healthy.

Please continue to keep Shady in your thoughts as he undergoes surgery tomorrow. We are hopeful this repair will be another big step toward his recovery.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️

7/2/26🐾 Shady Update – He's Finally Home! 🐾

I have some wonderful news to share... Shady is finally back home after successfully undergoing surgery to repair the tear in his bladder! ❤️

The past few weeks have been an emotional roller coaster. After initially coming home from the hospital, Shady began vomiting and wouldn't eat or drink. We rushed him back to the emergency hospital, where they discovered a small tear in his bladder that required emergency surgery.

Thankfully, the surgery was a success. I can't thank the incredible veterinary team enough for everything they did to save his life. Their compassion and dedication gave Shady a second chance, and I will never be able to express how grateful I am.

Since coming home, Shady is doing so much better. He's resting comfortably, recovering one day at a time, and it's such a relief to finally have him back where he belongs.

While we're celebrating this huge milestone, we're still facing the financial burden of his emergency care. Between multiple hospital stays, diagnostic testing, surgery, medications, and around-the-clock treatment, the veterinary bills have become more than I can manage on my own.

If you're able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it would help tremendously as I work to pay off Shady's medical expenses. If donating isn't possible, simply sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family would mean the world to us.

To everyone who has donated, shared, prayed, or sent words of encouragement throughout this journey—thank you. Your kindness, generosity, and support helped give Shady the chance to keep fighting, and I will never forget it.

We're so thankful to have our sweet boy home, and we're looking forward to watching him continue to heal.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing by us. ❤️🐾

🐾 SHADY UPDATE — HE’S BACK TO BEING HIMSELF! 🐾 ❤️

I wanted to give everyone a much-needed update on our boy Shady. It has been a few weeks since everything happened, and I am SO incredibly happy to say that Shady is finally back to his normal, goofy self! 🥹❤️

After being hit by a car, suffering spinal trauma, dealing with possible liver damage, being hospitalized, coming home, getting sick again, and then being rushed back to the hospital where they discovered a small tear in his bladder, Shady has been through more than I ever could have imagined.

He had successful surgery to repair his bladder, and thankfully, he is now home and doing SO much better. He's eating, drinking, acting like himself, and enjoying being home again. 🐶❤️

He does still have a small limp, which we're keeping an eye on, but compared to where we were just a few weeks ago, seeing him walking around and acting like his old self feels like a miracle.

Unfortunately, while Shady's health has improved tremendously, the veterinary bills are still very real.

I currently still owe $5,053.24 in medical expenses from everything he went through.

I never expected to have to ask for this much help, and honestly, asking for financial help is difficult for me. But I have been struggling to keep up with these bills, and I don't want the financial side of this nightmare to take away from being able to enjoy having my boy healthy and home again.

If you can donate even a few dollars, it would help me tremendously. And if you can't donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as important. One share could reach someone who is able to help.

I also want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has already donated, shared Shady's story, prayed for him, checked on him, or simply sent us encouraging messages. You helped us get through some incredibly scary days, and I will never forget it. ❤️

Shady fought so hard to come home, and now he's finally home. 🐾❤️

Now I just need a little help getting through the financial aftermath of everything it took to save him.

Remaining vet bill: $5,053.24

Thank you for continuing to stand by Shady and me. ❤️🐾
